Questions & Answers
Question : Childhood favorite- Colorforms...remember?
I have been searching for my favorite childhood toy. The glorious colorforms playsets. They came in a relatively flat box, approx. 1" high 12"across and perhaps 9" deep (like a cookie sheet shape). Remove the lid and the actual play area was set into the bottom of the box and the plastic pieces to stick on the board were on flaps that opened to reveal the background scene. Does anyone know what I'm talking about here? There was a laboratory set, a country kitchen/bakery set, and I think there may have been sesame street set too but not sure. This wouldve been early 1970's. Mattell maybe? I really want to find this artifact of my youth. Please help.thanks for the great start to all, especially Winnie for validating my invested Hours in playing with my colorforms. I don't remember ninja turtles...too new, my colorforms were older stuff-way old stuff. I thought Mattell was the manufacturer? I have a vague image in my mind of a symbol on the side of the box...? Hasbro? Winnie? anyone?omg! I found 'Miss Cookie's Kitchen' circa 1965 and 'Miss Weather'!! You guys rock! Now, if anyone can really make my holiday special- I can't remember the name of the laboratory set. I remember it had beakers, test tubes, pipettes, the usual lab stuff and i think it had like bats? spiders/webs? The background looked like a castle dungeon or the like. PLEASE??? Help me PLEASE?
Answer:
Part of the problem with finding earlier sets is that they may not be complete.I have a colorforms for The Little Mermaid

Question : Do you think children are made to conform to their stereotypical gender roles when they are toddlers?
Just something I thought about a while ago.If you think of it - what do parents buy their children to play with?Girls - Barbie dolls, Baby Born/babies, kitchen/cooking play sets, tea sets etcBoys - Action Man, Bob the BUILDER, construction playsets, plastic hammers, Hot Wheelz etcAre children made to act like their stereotyped gender roles (women - bring up the children/cook, men - breadwinners/working/building) through the toys that parents buy them?Would be interesting to see your views on this!Pyewacket - Yeah I heard about that survey! It just goes to show that they are treated differentlyCyberCommie - it was just something that came up in a Psychology lesson ages ago. It does not mean that I do not accept that it is natural. Gosh
Answer:
I never really thought of this before! I have 5 girls and always bought Barbies, dolls, kitchen supplies, tea sets, dress-up, teddy bears, etc. It was just something I never thought twice about. We also have gender neutral things like board games, electronics, music, etc. If my daughter ever wanted to play with Bob the Builder, tools, or Hot Wheelz, I would of course buy them. I just never was asked for them, even after them playing with there boy cousins toys. If they wanted them I think they would ask at the store!Recently, I watched a show on Transgender children starting as young as 2! It talked about how boys wanted to dress as girls and girls wanted to dress as boys. The parents would let them and they started undergoing things to change genders. I don't know what I would ever do if placed in the situation. Obviously I would have to let the child express themself. Tough situation! Very good thinking question though.EDIT: And to the person who said they won't let there son play with Barbies, why not? I mean I don't have a son, but it's just a toy. It doesn't mean he will grow up to be gay! And if he does, will you still love him? He may just grow up to be a fashion designer. You need to relax and let your children be who they wan to be (sorry wasn't supose to be a joke with the Barbie commericals, just worked out that way).

Question : Any Suggestions for a unique gift for a one year old girl?
For her first birthday. Her mother (my sister) has a home childcare, and an older daughter, so they have a version of just about every toy under the sun. So it REALLY has to be UNIQUE. Just to specify, No playsets, Dolls, giant horses, play kitchens, puzzles, (they have all this). My sister wants to get her something awesome , but has no clue. Budget around $100-$200.
Answer:
A baby "grand piano" OR a really nice toy chest with her name on it.

Question : What is a good idea for making a barbie drama?
I wanna make a barbie house drama video for youtube...when i see the barbie vidz on youtube, i think of trying it and making a drama by my own but it isn't that simple, when i start i do not have any ideas of adding lines to it, so it becomes dramatic, however i want it to be humorous....ok so i have in my collection:A barbie dollhouse. + furnitureA barbie sporty fashionista doll (female)4 and more female barbies. All necessary accessories + dressesA fairy barbie dollPlaysets: Bedroom playset, Kitchen playset & Veterinary playsetWhat i'm waiting for:Male fashionistas dollsKen dollsKelly dollsBaby dollsAlot of more playsets.Note: I don't have really good furniture in the dollhouse, 1 living room, 1 bedroom and 1 kitchen (it has fridge and barbie eatables with more things) I don't have male kens or male fashionistas thats why i have converted my female barbies into male by making them wear boy clothes and cutting their hair or just making an updo. I need the story to include A family and it should be funny!!! ty oh and i dont have the kens and baby or kelly dolls so if u want to include a kid, it should be teen and femal cause i have converted 2 females into males so i think both 2 would be needed to be put in a role. I would like if we do it with only 1 male cause another is a kind of ugly....bt watever any ideas pls? if ur chosen plz mail me the scripts @ officially_ishi@ymail.com THXXXX <3
Answer:

Question : Where can I buy a children's beauty shop play set?
I am a cosmetologist and my three year old niece loves to come into my shop. I would like to get her a play set that is like a beauty shop. I would kind of like to get one that is similar to those Little Tykes kitchen playsets. Someone told me that they had seen one but couldn't remember where. I don't have the time to do eBay (even if there is one on there) and I don't think that I will have time to get it back in time for Christmas if I were to order one online. I live in Tennessee and I'm going to Nashville to finish my Christmas shopping tomorrow. Has anyone seen anything like what I'm describing and where can I buy one at?What I would like to get her is one of those little life size play sets. Like the Little Tykes kitchen has the little pots and pans that kids can put on the "real" oven or stove.I'm the cool Aunt so I have to get a great present. She is my only niece and she has me trained very well.
