Question : How to repair Rockford Amp RCA inputs?
I have a rockford 1000.1bd amp and one of my RCA inputs cuts in and out. I think I can see cracks in the solder where the metal rca plug pin goes through the board. Can I reflow the solder with my soldering iorn? Do rockford rca input blocks go bad and should I look for a replacement part first? If I can reflow it with my soldering iron do you have any tips.
Answer:
I just fixed my MTX rca's. Should be an easy job just use flux or flux core solder and get the iron up to temp. Sometimes a little sanding is needed to remove the wire coating.

Also I am thinking about slapping some EMG 81/85's in the King V.My rig is a Fender Frontman 212R 2X12 100 Watt combo amp, and my pedalboard consists of: MXR Badass '78 Distortion, MXR Wylde Overdrive, MXR Black Label Chorus, Dunlop Wah, Boss TU-2, MXR Micro Flanger, and a Boss Blues Driver.I play alot of Heavy and Thrash metal. (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Motley Crue, etc.)I already have an Epiphone G400 and Epiphone Les Paul Studio Deluxe.

If it were me, I'd stick with the King V and use what you'd spend on the Dean for pickups/etc like you plan to. I think those EMG 81/85s would make that Jackson really sing. Maybe also new pickups for one of the Epiphones, such as the Tony Iommi pickups for a more bassy, sludgy sound.

Hello there,Much like the Doctor (thumbs up to him), I don't see any point in getting several low to mid quality guitars. Seems pretty much pointless to me. I can't think of how a Dean VMNTX is a significant upgrade over anything you have already.Your amp is loud enougn and has decent speakers. Just the same, I would rather get a good tube amp to replace it than to buy another mid level guitar. I think a good tube amp would add more to your sound.I would think that putting in the EMGs would be worth doing. Have you ever played active pickups? They do magnifiy your poor playing skills. They are great pickups, but any poor playing skills are going to get exposed by them. I would think your LP Studio Deluxe would be a pretty decent guitar. You might think about a pickup upgrade for it also. DiMarizo or Seymour Duncan pickups in the LP might be worth doing.Later,

Question : My soldering iron does not desolder. It seems too slow ( or cool?), is it defective. I'm a beginner and .....?
modding a guitar amp, and I'm practing on a junk circuit board. If I push the soldering tool it will sink in, but the desoldering braid won't pick up any of the solder and the old component won't pull out of the board. The solder doesn't seem to get liquid enough. Is it the tip or the inexpensive tool I bought or my technique? It's new, and the pencil type solderer. I will keep trying.
Answer:
Sounds like a dirty or not properly tinned tip. Clean the tip using the wet sponge that should have come with it and see if it will melt your solder when you touch it to the tip. If that is all done and it still isn't working, you may need a hotter tip or a better iron for the type of work you are trying to do.

Way too many questions. Break it up into individual questions. This is so many that I can't keep the top part and the answer box on the screen at the same time. I'll answer a few from the end.25. IF the red lead has the + voltage on it in the ohms mode (and not all multimeters do) then you put the red lead on the anode and the black lead on the cathode. 24. Depends on the polarity.
