Questions & Answers
Question : After 12 years, my wife still doesn't realize her sister doesn'e like me...?
I've always had a bad relationship with my wife's older sister & her husband. I met them when I was 18 and they were 30, and they immediately made assumptions about me; they assumed I liked to party and drink & since they had a baby and were almost ten years older they felt we wouldn't have anything in common, so they pretty much dismissed me...even making it kind of difficult for me to feel part of the family. For the record, I was a boring kid; I was in college & working part-time at a grocery store, and played basketball and videogames, and spent my weekends working or at my sister's.The thing is my older sister is the same age as my wife's older sister, and my brother-in-law is 20 years older than me, and they've always had a great relationship with my wife. In fact we go on vacation together, and we bought two campers & a lot at a campground and spend most weekends together in the summer. The problem is my wife wants that type of relationship with her older sister, only it's obvious that's never going to happen. To this day (I'm 32 now) they go out of their way to not speak to me...Example:Just this past year their kids took interest in guitars – I play the guitar & give lessons to kids at my family's music store. Being that they know NOTHING about guitars, you'd think at the very least they might email me and asked for advice, at which point I would have given them a generous discount since (like it or not) they're my family. But no, they go somewhere else, and a guitar (keyword:) salesman sells them an expensive electric guitar & amp that is suitable for an adult, not an 8 year old. It's too heavy & too big so even if the kid could lift it, he couldn't get his hand around the neck to learn chords. In the end they'd rather waste a $1,000 than speak to me.Things like that happen all of the time.I hate to say it but it is what it is, and while I'm always open to things improving...at this point 12+ years later I just don't see it. My question is how do I handle this with my wife? I understand she sees our relationship with my sister and wants that with her own family, but how much more obvious could it be that it isn't going to happen? What do I do?
Answer:
You need to communicate this to your wife. Then you need to keep trying to get them to like you. You know it would make your wife really happy and you seem smart enough to make it happen. It's easy, just figure out what it is about them that you do like and only focus on that. They'll like you bc you like something about them. All my sisters in law hated me initially but today they like me a lot....well I'm still working on one.

Question : Acoustic vs. Electric???
I started playing guitar earlier this week and I'm hooked, can't get enough! Right now I have a cheap beginner guitar that's for little kids and is far too small for me. I was thinking of getting a better one and can't decide between electric and acoustic.-I've heard both are about the same for beginners-I more want to play like pop rock songs mostly so was thinking electric-On a little bit of a budget, but if electric is better for me, that'd be worth it.-Saw a baby 4x4 inch amp for $25, I don't plan to be in a band-I heard it's harder to play acoustic, and I want to be as good as I can be-I have the little acoustic if I NEED to play acoustic so not even sure if I should get another bigger one...I'm so lostI'm 16 and NO idea which one to get, is there anything I'm missing?? Any suggestions?? I've been playing for a few days and already know most basic chords and most notes and their strings from the staff, so progressing relatively quickly.I don't care about learning, I always learn by playing on the hardest and so it seems easy to play slightly easier ones
Answer:
Go to musicansfriend.com they have good deals. Why not get one that is a combo, all in one.

Question : Back to School...whoopity freakin doo!?
Alrighty...so it's time to get the kids back to school! Both of my siblings (who live with me full time) will be in high school this year, one is a Senior, the other a Freshman. We managed just fine last year...but I am currently 23 weeks pregnant and hoping to amp up the organization this year to help all of us (but especially me...lol) maintain productivity and sanity.Anyone have any kick-bang suggestions on how to stay organized, or have any good scheduling/organizational tips and tricks? We already have a chore chart, but I'm hoping to get some good ideas to make things flow well...especially as we get closer to the baby coming. Thanks!!
Answer:
the chore chart is a great idea, also try having a free time chart were your kids can write down THEIR schedule of the week e.g if they have any sports. you could also have a treat chart but maybe their too old for that lol.just try organizing the kids school clothes, stationary and stuff because it might be too late after the baby comes X)hope i helped x

Oh and i am not getting all these things because that is wayy to expensive!
Answer:
i dont have any kids ( im only 16) Honestally all i want for christmas is a great holiday season with my family ( which is a given we always have a blast) and snow on christmas. Im not really materialistic at all. My sister (10 yrs old) wants the Breaking dawn book and a great holiday season with our family ( as i said above) i personally would not get your 16 year olds a car like that. in my school parking there has been so many accidents( thank goodness no one has hit my car! it has no dents and i tend to keep it that way.( i have a 2004 bright yellow bug :D ))and LOTS of guys race in the parking lot. i would start them off with a different car. :) Merry Christmas :)

Question : Looking for a way to simulate 'night time mode' DSP on my computer. How-to?
I watch movies on my computer using Windows Media Player 10, Windows Classic Media Player, and/or VLC Player. The output from my computer goes to my stereo. This is all fine except that movies generally have such a WIDE variance in volume, I find it very difficult to watch movies after the kids have gone to bed. First, there's quiet talk, so I have to crank the volume way high, but then there's an explosion and it shakes the windows in the house and wakes up the sleeping babies! ARgh! My stereo amp is an old one, but it works fine, even if it doesn't have a night-time DSP mode. I know I could go out an buy a new amp with this DSP mode built-in, but I'd rather not. Instead, I'm looking for a plug-in for one of the video players listed above that will do the same sort of thing: increase volume for quiet scenes but limit and decrease the volume for very loud scenes. Preferably I'd like it to do this in real-time, rather than having to process a file in advance.Any suggestions?
Answer:
Any suggestions? Well I had a quick Google for "windows media player normalization plugin" which led me to some forum posts from people who led me to search instead for "windows media player volume limiter".The only one I could find quickly was the following one from Plantronics which costs $20 - not a lot of money. But it does sound like it'll do exactly what you want:http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemID=836Hopefully that'll do the trick. It sounds like a proper piece of kit, but you might want to email them and check that it'll work with all audio outputs (from music AND video) so you've got that peace of mind before you spend money on it. Here's what it says about the plugin:"Volume Logic incorporates a state-of-the-art 5-band dynamics processor that examines and corrects your audio thousands of times a second. The result: low levels are intelligently raised and loud signals are kept under control, all in real-time."All the best!

Question : Do you feel comfortable leaving your toddler around breakables?
I'm not implying anything by asking this because I know first hand that two kids born of the same parents and raised the same way can be complete opposites, but have you ever had a toddler (1, 2, 3 years old) who you never needed to take CD's away from, or movies, or be afraid to leave them alone with vases on the table, or never had to be uncomfortable taking them to a store or to a person's home for fear they'd be into everything? My first born was like that, which is why I ask. Even at just a year and a half she'd frequently play beside my CD rack and I never had to worry she's try pulling them out or destroying them....(My second isn't old enough to know for sure but I'd put a million dollar bet that come the next few years she'll be the kid we won't be able to take down the baby proofing any time soon, and even have to amp it up to the ninth degree just to spare us the destruction of our entire home, lol.)* trust ME...she won't be putting deep scratches in them. I love when people think they know your kids better then you do. just because your 3 kids were hellians doesn't mean everyone's are, lady. Did you every consider that never giving a kid the opportunity to learn not to scratch a cd is likely a sure fire way of ensuring they WILL scratch them once they find one? Logic. right there. Unless your kid IS a naturally destructive child try working WITH them from the beginning to train them not to do stuff. because if they never have the opportunity to learn not to, they're sure to be into mischief if they stumble into something.
Answer:
I have accepted that my daughter will ruin things at some point, usually unintentionally. If it's so precious that I can't bare to lose it then it's already been tucked away. That's not to say everything's been put away - there's lots of stuff out she can break and sometimes even will. She's autistic and needs to learn and I have accepted that. I'm not very attached to material possessions anyway and know everything will need to be replaced or at least retired at some point. We have a 42" LCD TV that we joke often it's a miracle she hasn't broken yet. So long as she doesn't hurt herself, and she doesn't somehow manage to find the one and only porcelain doll that is dear to me (which is on the top shelf in a spare room) how can you get upset? I do take a different attitude in other peoples' homes though. Our Mother-In-Law has a cluttered place but for the most part has the same philosophy. Obviously we're going to redirect attention where we can but sometimes the inevitable happens and there's no need to get upset. If it was that important it wouldn't be out in the living room when all the grandkids are coming over anyway. But not every person thinks like that. If they have too many valuables they are very attached to in their homes and don't want to try to make a kid-safe area then there have been times where I've cut visit short or just invited them to our house instead.

Question : Energy Drink Poll: Red Bull, Monster, or AMP?
Our five-year-old prefers Monster, says it goes down easier, and the buzz lasts right through recess. Our two-year-old can't express herself verbally yet, but she does seem to swing higher and farther on the dining room chandelier when she's had a couple of Red Bulls. And the baby's always shown a preference for anything made by Mountain Dew; plus, the Red Bull and Monster seem to bring on the projectile vomiting, so I'm guessing AMP is probably his favorite. My question: Should we stop catering to their individual tastes, and try to get them all drinking the same stuff? I'm leaning toward AMP, because they always send us these great dollar-off coupons in the mail. Or would we be bad parents for forcing our children to help us save money?Star if you think my wife should have breast-fed our three kids instead.Y!A sez: Food & Drink > Entertaining. Yeah, most of the time...Thumbs down on your answers aren't coming from me, friends. WTF...
