Questions & Answers
Question : Creative baby gift for mom-to-be, bath-time essentials - any suggestions?
So I finally finished the Star Wars themed diaper cake for my husband's friend, and of course, the very day I finished that baby shower gift, I get an invitation for another friend's baby shower! It really never ends, lol!So I was thinking for this person I would start off with a baby bath tub, then I could line the tub with a towel. I'd bulid a small diaper cake (2-3 tiers) on the inside of tub. And I'd like to decorate the inside of the tub and the diaper cake with bath toys and bath essential items (soap, shampoo, lotion, washcloths, etc..)If anyone could supply links to uique baby bath items, fun bath toys, or really any suggestions for a bath-time themed shower gift would be greatly appreciated.I was thinking of using something like this for the tub:http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2403317I'd inflate the tub and then the small diaper cake would go where the baby in the picture is,from there I just need ideas for which bath time essential items to include, unique toys and things of that nature.-Thanks everyone
Answer:
they bath sections in most stores -- babies r us has a whole bath aisle. you could get a hooded towel, some wash cloths, baby shampoo, and whatever bath toys there are...there's a billion different kinds and they're all the same. you should look for a faucet cover too so they don't bonk their head on the faucet when they grow out of the tub.

Question : What age was your baby when you stopped using a baby bath?
My daughter is 12 months old and still fits easily in her baby bath. I think some are different sizes to others. My baby bath is half the lenght of our normal bath and quite wide. Big enough to fit her and most of her bath toys. I think it's time now to start using the main bath, and also will I need a non slip mat in the bath even though she will be supervised obviously.
Answer:
I stopped using my baby bath for my daughter when she was about 5months old. for the simple fact I found it easier to take her in with me. She is now 9months and either comes in with me or she has a seat for the bath to sit in. If your daughter still fits and enjoys it in baby bath then I dont see the reason to stop using it, although it may be an idea to use the big bath now and again with her to get her used to it as shes not going to fit in baby bath forever. She may find it easier if you start now and use both for a while before just getting rid of it altogether, because my daughter didnt like the big bath at first. Think she found it a bit overwhelming because it was so big, but shes fine with it now shes used to it. good luck

Question : where can u get those bath toys where the lil animal (a frog or somethin) paddles into the mammy?
Like, you pull out the little baby frog or whatever on a string and then it automatically winds back up and the little baby has little flippers and "swims" back up to its mammy. sorry for the poor explanation but if anyone has seen them before they'll know what i'm on about. I had one as a child and really want to buy one as a gift. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Try flea markets in your area. Also ebay.

Question : Good toys for baby's first Christmas?
My MIL asked us about what we wanted for our son for Christmas. It's a hard question right now because he's only 3 months old and not quite ready to play with toys yet. His wants and needs are still pretty simple right now, although he is enjoying his time in the swing more and spending more time looking at his mobile. He already has some rattles, teething rings, a few bath toys, and stuffed animals but not much else. Any parents have suggestions for good toys for a 3-12 month old? I figure we might as well ask for some slightly older toys as well, we can always store them in the closet until he's old enough to play with them.
Answer:
ExercauserBouncerJumperooPush toySoft blocksStacking ringsBath toysAnything labeled 0 - 12 months! Most toys are labelled what age they are appropriate for. Many of the 18+ month toys are also great for kids 12 months old, since they advance at different levels.By 12 months your baby will almost certainly be crawling, but may be walking and speaking their first word and signing perhaps another 5 (if you start teaching baby sign language at 7 months). So that covers a very wide toy range, from infant to toddler.Perhaps a good way to go is to focus on crawler toys. Things used before the toddler stage, but that may encourage walking.

Question : Would soaking my daughter's bath toys in some bleach water be a good idea??
I am doing some major cleaning of the entire apartment trying to get everything ready for the new baby on the way. Well my two year old LOVES to take baths and has a lot of bath toys and while I rinse them off after every bath and make sure they are empty of water, would filling the bath tub with water and adding some bleach be a good idea as far as making SURE they are clean. I hear they can grow mold inside sometimes and I know bleach kills mold! Of course I will be rinsing them off THROUGHLY afterwards!!!If NOT a good idea what other ways can I be sure her toys are clean??Thanks!I am not a "germ freak" but my daughter doesn't need to be playing with toys that have MOLD on them in her bath water! That is just GROSS!I know all about building immune systems, my daughter has a stronger immune system then I do! I get sick more often then she does.Killing MOLD is an issue of keeping her safe because certian kinds of molds CAN be deadly!!
Answer:
Once a week cleaning in a mild bleach and water solution is a great idea. Just make sure to rinse and then dry the toys thoroughly. Doing this will disenfect the toys and kill mold. I too am a firm believer in not putting kids in plastic, germ=free bubbles, however, mold can make you really sick. Especially when you remember that kids still do gross things like put their faces in bath water...EWWW

Question : Which baby items/toys did your baby use for the longest time (in age, not hours) or longer than expected?
For example: Clothings are definitely no long-term investment, unless you're planning for subsequent babies. In my son's case (he's almost 1), it's: - his baby bath (it was too large back then, and "just right" for now)- his Tummy Time Gym (he still loves having it around, even if only for the music and as an aid to pull himself up sometimes)- his "First Word" bath book, he never seems to get tired of "reading" itWhat about yours?
Answer:
The toys both my children treasured was one of the cheapest! It was actually those stacking cups you can get, you know the ones, from largest to smallest, they played for hours with those. A close second was building bricks, like huge lego!

Question : Baby bath from toys'r' us or babies 'r' us about $12?
I was told about this fabulous baby bath tub "sling" that fits in a kitchen sink and is made out of blue mesh that forms a hammock for baby to be cradled in. This creates a snug, safe place for baby so you won't have to try and bathe them while holding onto slippery baby skin. You just lather them and rinse them off, no muss no fuss. Anyone seen/heard of them? Online links and/or pics would be GREAT. Thanks!

Question : How often do u bleach/wash ur baby/toddlers toys?
So people think that im crazy so washing my kids toys so often.but its not even that much!! i bleach all of my sons toys about every 3-6 months, unless he was sick, then id wash all of his toys after he was done being sick.like i bleach his bath toys, his, and all of his play toys, and i guess whenever someone talks to me they say im always washing his toys.BUT /w all the sickness going around can u blame me?how often do u wash ur kids toys?my son is 19 months, and ive only washed all of his toys MAYBE 15-20 time.
Answer:
I know what you mean. I work in childcare where disinfecting is very important We try to do it every few weeks unless other wise needed, for the preschoolers, and every week for the babies. Bath toys can easily grow mold/mildew and should be disinfected every week. And thoroughly dried out between baths. Since you son is at the age were things go right into the mouth disinfecting more often is a good idea, especially with flu season coming. Teaching your child to properly wash their hands is a good idea as well. Be careful with some toys, the have small openings that bleach water falls into, and then can dump out on the child. For toys like this I use a damp rag with bleach water or a disinfecting wipe I wash toys and put them out in the hot sun to dry out,
