Questions & Answers
Question : How did the Cup, Plate, Bowl, and Shield awards came about in sports tournaments?
I know in the IRB events how a team gets to win the Cup, Plate, Bowl, and Shield. My question is: what is the history behind choosing tableware and a defense equipment to signify an award? How did people end up deciding that the winners get the Cup, the losing quarterfinalists fight for the Plate, the 3rd and 4th place finishers in each pool fight for the Bowl and the losing quarterfinalists in the Bowl competition fight for the Shield. How did this hierarchy with the Cup on top and the Shield at the bottom came about?
Answer:
In the original America's cup competition the prize was a silver tea set, which they melted down to make the current cup.In the 19th century tea sets, table ware etc were works of art, rare and special.

Question : Would you buy a 60 pieces tableware set for $40?
I'm looking at the Ikea ad and they are having a sale for a 60 pieces tableware set for $40; regular price is $90. It comes with folks, spoons, places, deep dishes, wine cups, mugs and glass cups. I know that is extremely cheap. however, they only have white and I'm not a big fan of white dishes. I figure I can buy them and use them for everyday meals and save the nice colorful plates that I have for when I have dinner parties. Any suggestion or whether or not I should buy it?
Answer:
That's a great deal if you like the stuff.I have white ironstone, and I chose them on purpose. At Christmas I can use red and green and gold and have a Christmas table setting. At Easter, I can use a pastel print table cloth and all kinds of bunny-chickie-duckie accents. White always works no matter what else you're trying to do. If you have dark dishes, things like spaghetti may not look very appetizing. Put some meat loaf and green beans on maroon dish and it may look yucky. Cream colored dishes would be good too, but either of those colors opens the rest of your palette to whatever you might want for any specific occasion.

Question : I want to buy a nice picnic basket?
Remember those pictures from those nursery rhymes with the wooden picnic baskets that have swing handles and the top opens on two sides? like this: http://www.basketryetc.com/V2_images/oval/picknik.jpgWell, I've been searching everywhere to find one for my 2 year anniversary. I'm really picky about my basket and it needs to fulfill the following requisites:-Wooden [preferable wicker]-Honey/ caramel colored [just basically brownish]-Around $70 [but cheaper would be awesome]-Double swing handles-Opens on top on two sides [refer to link above]-Rectangular-Comes with basic tableware [forks, spoons, knives, cloth napkins, plates, cups]If you know someplace where i can purchase a basket as close as possible to the descriptions above, I'd really appreciate it =) THANKS!!!!
Answer:
How does $3 sound? I saw this one on EBay, I'd ask the seller for more pictures though. And at that price, you can pick out what you want for tableware! http://cgi.ebay.com/GIGANTIC-STURDY-PICNIC-BASKET-GREAT-CONDITION_W0QQitemZ180136477417QQihZ008QQcat egoryZ79689QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemWe call that a Wizard of Oz basket, very cute and very hard to find. There are a lot that open on the back or where the lid comes off completely.

Question : My tableware smells like paint!?
I recently painted the insides of the kitchen cupboards with paint especially for cupboards. Three days later, the paint odour still lingers strongly in the air. My mom put some of the cups back in the cupboards today, thinking that the smell would eventually go away. But now the cups have the paint odour as well!Has anyone ever had this problem? How can I eliminate the odour? Thanks for any suggestions!
Answer:
I don't know if this will work, but try putting a container of water in there. I've heard that you can get rid of paint oder in a room, by placing a bucket of water in it. It might work in a smaller area too. What do you have to lose?!

Question : How to select everyday dinnerware?
Cooking is my hobby and I like to experiment with different plating and presentations. The kids are now all teenagers – mostly past dropping and breaking dishes. Therefore, I've decided to replace our everyday dishes with plain white, rolled-rimmed, upscale restaurant-style porcelain tableware. I definitely will buy dinner plates and luncheon plates. I'm undecided about salad plates, dessert plates, bread plates, soup bowls, soup cups, and chargers. I can't buy all of them – they wouldn't fit in my cupboards! If I buy nappy bowls, can they replace soup bowls and salad plates? Somewhere I read that you might use glass dessert plates instead of china to create interest/variety. Good idea or bad? What's the best solution to my needs? I know that the answer is, “It depends on what I need.” However, can anyone give advice or point me to an on-line or text reference that can answer “How to select everyday tableware to best fit ones lifestyle?” Thanks!
Answer:
you could go to family dollar or a cheap place like that and buy your dishes there they sometimes have some nice looking stuff and it wont cost you an arm and a leg then you could get your fancy shit somewhere else

Question : Which is better for the enviroment? Disposable dishes (paper plates, platic cups, etc...) or regular dishes?
is it better for the enviroment to use paper plates, plastic cups, plastic spoons and forks? or is it better to use regular tableware and wash them?
Answer:
It is definetly 100% better to use regular tableware because think of all the waste you are saving! Although tableware does require water to wash them, it isn't as bad as maybe 10-15 plates and cups thrown in landfills ALONG with the plastic bags used as garbage bags per family.I'm glad you care about the environment! Think twice before you act to make sure it doesn't impact the planet as much! See ya!
