me and my class mates are working on a motorcycle engine in mechanics. i would like to know how to make it into a project for the science fair. thanks for any help given!!
Answer:
You might try to actually measure the torque vs. speed curve, and if you still have time, changes to the curve with various fuels or qualities of fuel. You might be able to convert the engine to run off steam or connect it to a generator.

Answer:
It is called a capacitance switch.Basically a capacitor is like a reservoir for electrons. The circuit is set up so that it changes state when the reservoir falls below a critical level. When you touch a conductor that is attached to the capacitor your body sucks all of the electrons out of the capacitor and causes the switch to change state.

Question : What kind of qualification do you need to write for science magazines and websites such as Popular Mechanics?
Is a background in science or journalism more important? Or is there something else? Help, I'm a student in need of some life advice.
Answer:
Most of the editors who work at Popular Mechanics have regular journalism degrees (though we do have some engineers and at least one editor with a science degree on staff). Our personal interests—whether they're science, technology, or outdoor activities—a whole lot of curiosity and a willingness to ask questions, think critically and get our hands dirty are what make us qualified to work there. Our home and auto editors have tons of shop experience, too. However, if you want to work at a science or tech publication, taking courses in those disciplines when you're in college can only help you!

Question : what is the difference between quantum mechanics and computer science?
i know that quantum computing is a field in the sector of quantum mechanics but does anyone know if the study of computer science is related to quantum computing?sorry if this is confusing, but basically i am due to start an undergraduate course in computer science. would my degree have any relevance to the field of quantum computing i.e. would i be able to get a job in quantum computing research after i graduate?
Answer:
Yes, there are important parts of the study of computer science that relate to quantum computing. There is a particular class of algorithms that will become much faster if they can use quantum computer hardware. You need to study computing theory: algorithms and complexity. There might be an upper level undergraduate class at your university in it. It might even be required. If you tell me your university I can maybe look at the course catalog and tell you what course I'm talking about.As far as I understand, the physicists haven't finished working out their part of it yet. They have systems of one or a few quantum bits, but not enough to do anything practical. Computer scientists won't get involved until they have, oh, 100 bit systems. But they can get ready by working on theoretical quantum algorithms so they have a quick start when the technology becomes available.

Don't say string theory. It's not even a theory
Answer:
Oh probably something like matter doesn't matter after all. What matters are the holes between the matter that no one matters at all about. It is the same theory that still exists about the donut. Is a donut still a dough nut or is it only a donut if there is a whole in it. And what is with those holes, now they are just as much donuts and the dough nut. They should be called notdonuts or just plain holes. It is the hole theory that is going to be the whole story in quantum mechanics that revolutionizes science especially if we get too close to a big black one, the hole I mean. Then of course there will be no more theories because the sum will be less than the whole.

Question : For those of you studying advanced science, do you find mechanics interesting?
I've studied mechanics in 8th and 9th grade science class and honestly was very bored with the topic. The topics we covered were like " If an object accelerates at 4 meter per second squared for 3 seconds, whats it's terminal velocity?" The topics only labeled observable actions, not explaining any laws of the universe. I was wondering, does the study of mechanics get interesting and explain natural phenomena or just label easily observable actions?
Answer:
Mechanics is very basic physics you need if you want to do anything in something related to physics, but it's stuff we figured out hundreds of years ago. There's nothing new in that field, nothing you'd actually research. It's really not a good representation of what physics is all about.
