Question : what is the difference between these different types of remote control cars at toy stores?
I have a 8 year old son. I use to be into radio control cars, the kind that you would get from a Hobby Shop. But I want to buy something for my son that would be fast but not hobby shop expensive. How do the ratings work with mhz and battery voltage as far as speed?Doesn't voltage on the battery effect that as well?
Answer:
the bigger the mhz number the longer the battery lasts and the more power you will get

Question : Besides eBay which has dear postage, what the cheapest place to buy HSP Radio Control Parts for my buggy ?
eBay has some cheap parts but usually their postage is $7 just to post the smallest of parts, and their combined postage on several items is not that special. Hobby shops are very expensive. Does anyone know the best online shop for RC Parts, in particular HSP / Hispeed brand as this is the model I own.
Answer:
There are a couple of good web sites. I would trywww.myrc.com.auorwww.rcgalaxy.com.auBoth these sites have lots of parts at really good prices and their postage is cheap, much cheaper than eBay.

We have a JATO that is Blazing fast, but is turning out to be an Expensive hobby :-s

My favourite hobby would be reading because it gives me the chance to escape from the responsibilities of life, even for a little while and is educational, depending on what I am reading at the time of course!A hobby with my son is Nintendos Zelda, its the only game I play with him so can't wait for the next version to be released. With my daughter it is baking, something that we have done since she was just a toddler.

Question : What is the average cost of a "starter" radio controlled plane?
I am considering taking up radio controlled planes as a hobby. But I have no experience, and don't know where to start. What is the average cost of a "starter" radio controlled plane? I mean starter, as in the first own owned to get started. What would be needed to get started? Just the plane and controller? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.
Answer:
First, find out if there is a local group of RC flyers, and if so, go watch them fly and talk with them.In MANY cases, you may be allowed to fly a trainer, and/or may be able to buy one, used, at a more reasonable cost. ALSO, it is easier to learn IF you have an instructor. You have to decide WHAT you want to fly also. There are some very cheap, almost indoor only, models if that is what you want. You also have the choice of electric, nitro, and in larger models, gasoline engines. There are many good hobby sites if there are no local shops. Search RC aircraft.Tower Hobbies, one of my favorite sources for materials, has almost everything from beginners RTF models to materials for building from scratch, as do many others.A reasonable trainer's basic cost depends in part on what power, (electric, nitro), the size, and the type, (RTF, ARF, Kit, etc.), and a "combination" including plane, radio, engine/motor, servos can be from under 100 to about 200.Needed accessories such as fuel/batteries, props, chargers, etc. can add another 100 or so.Personally, for outdoor flying, I would NEVER use anything smaller than a 48" wingspan, and not use a "foam" plane as they are, in my opinion, too light to fly in anything greater than a VERY light breeze; but that is just me. I also prefer nitro over electric, but I have been flying for years and want to HEAR as well as see a plane.Hope this helps.

Question : Can you check a radio control controller (for a hobby car or plane) is working by using a oscilloscope?

Question : Looking for a hobby magazine that is strictly about radio controlled model helicopters?
I am looking for a hobby magazine that's just about radio controlled helicopters. I have a copy of Fly RC, and it looks good, but it covers radio controlled model airplanes mostly. Sense R/C helicopters are much harder to master, it looks like there would be a hobby magazine that is devoted to the radio controlled helicopter hobby. Ideally I would like a magazine that would not only cater to the experienced R/C helicopter pilots, but would help the newbies like myself as well. There are just so many models out there for the beginner to chose from. The Chinese imports alone are too numerous to count, and their affordable! Then there are the hop-up parts, a whole cottage industry has sprung up around, making improvements in the basic Chinese imports. Can anybody give me an Internet site that will list all of the radio controlled helicopter hobby magazines? I know there must be several out there.
Answer:
Go to your local Bookstore, they have a hobby section OR ask a Clerk at Radio Shack of there are actual Hobby Stores

Question : Help checking a radio control controller (for a hobby car or plane) is working by using a oscilloscope?
I have connected the ariel from a radio control controller to a oscilloscope and ground to the negative terminal on the battery. There is a signal when I connect but nothing changes when I move the controls. What should I be looking for? Should the amplitude increase dramatically or is there something else to look for? The controller is a A.M. one.
Answer:
I don't know the frequency of your remote but usually is 27 MHZ.You must first set the oscilloscope for range and V/div .For range use 1 or 0.5 microsecond and 1 or 2 V/div and you will be able to see the carrier. For modulation put the range to 1 millisecond.
