Questions & Answers
Question : What is it called?
My 2 kids are looking for a walkie talkie type of toy that they can communicate on.I've checked webpages on ToysRus, Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart but can't seem to find anything under Electronics or Toys. Does anyone know what they would be called other than walkie talkies?

Answer:
Target sells ChatNow, a cell phone look-a-like walkie talkie. You are able to talk and send text messages for free for up to 2 miles away. It also has a built in digital camera to take up to 30 black and white photos. Basically works the same as a cell phone. These cost about 50 dollars. Also there is the Sakar Ear Walkie Talkies, that are similar to a bluetooth handsfree for about 14 dollars, but you can only buy those on line. Try Target.com under Tech Toys+ Kids Electronics. Hope this helps!

Question : what kind of walkie talkie system do i need to use while on a cruise to keep track of a child?
I am taking a disabled child on a cruise to the bahamas, carnival, i know disney has a system for keeping track of kids with a walkie talkie type thing,,i want to buy something, wristbank or regular walkie talkie just so he can sort of "page me" if he is on a different part of the ship, any suggestions? not sure about electronics etc but i am sure some yahooian knows what i should need to know where the kid is, and to be alerted if he needs me. thank youthx for the ans so far, but cell tels do not work on long distance cruises,,also as for the wal mart solution,,is there a certain one that DOES work on cruises, i am not sure of interference etc and not sure if its distance capability is just the answer,,as for google search, well i did search,i want ans from people who have used one and can recommend one known to work on a similar experience.thx

Answer:
GO TO WAL-MART AND FIND THE SPORTING GOODS DEPARTMENT.THEY WILL BE THERE...SOME WILL REACH UP TO 3 MILES.AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP AND HAVE LOT'S OF FUN YOU TWO. ( NOT THE TOY ISLE )

Question : What can you about a company that has sold you a faulty item?
I would like some knowledgeable person to shed some light on my problem regarding consumer law. Detailed answers would be preferredI have been going a lot of research regarding consumer law and shocked is not the word. After all the research I have done it appears the law is not fair on consumers at the very least and I shall be writing to my local MP regarding it.First off lets look at this scenario which I will call ‘scenario A’. I go to a local electronics shop and I buy a pair of walkie talkies for my kids for £25. It’s in a sealed case so obviously to test it I must break the seal, put batteries in and use it. Now, I discover that its quite a bad product, not made well and I don’t believe its worth £25 so I take it back and say “I don’t believe this to be of satisfactory quality and I would like a refund”. If the shop keeper refuses to give a refund the next obvious thing to do is write a letter of complaint. But if they refuse to give me what I want for whatever reason such as they disagree or they just say “no” it seems they will be nothing I could do about it. The only thing to do would be to take them to a small claims court which for all kinds of reasons such as time wont be viable. Therefore the shop has won. Now as far as my research takes me there is nothing I could do but does anyone know of anything that can be done and if so what?If I describe another scenario, ‘scenario B’ and lets say I buy a TV worth £700 and it develops a major fault after 3 years and the 1 or 2 year warranty has ran out. Here for the time being at least taking the company who refuse to budge taking them to a small claims court would be viable. The burden of proof however is on me. I have to prove that fault was inherent and not caused by wear and tear. According to my research it is likely a Judge will use their own expert to find where the fault lies rather than the consumers own expert versus the manufacture to keep costs down. But it would still be very difficult for a Judge to take your side and win the case. Even if you were to assume you won someone would quite understandably think twice about taking a large company to court on the back of a 3 year old TV. And even if you won the costs would probably not be worth the victory in financial terms which means another win for a big company. In this scenario there could be all kinds of problems. Your own engineer could say the fault was inherent but the manufacturer could say the fault was caused by something I did. God only knows what kinds of complications this would cause which makes it harder to win the case. Obviously the manufacturer isn’t going to confirm the fault is on their part.If I was to read the above examples before my research I would first think that these are extreme examples and are every rare but after reading case studies and looking at forums and my own experience it seems to be the norm. My aim now is to lobby for a change in the law. There is a gem that I discovered which is Section 75 in reference to the credit card. This means that the credit card company is equally as liable as the store/manufacturer which means, I think, you can claim a full refund for being sold a faulty item. But there is a few things here. According to the Financial Ombudsman’s website if the monthly bill has been made in full, at least this is what I think it means, you cant put in a claim against the credit card company. Here is the quote from the website “purchases are not covered if they are made by debit cards or by charge cards (where the monthly bill has to be settled in full”. But lets say that you do everything by the book and use the credit card and you buy a £700 TV like in my previous scenario and the retailer and manufacturer wont play ball but what if the credit card company doesn’t either? What if they refuse to give you a refund if they believe the fault was caused by wear and tear? Would you have to take the credit card company to court too? In their (financial ombudsman) own words “to uphold a complaint (against the credit card company if they wont comply I assume) we need to be satisfied that the customer had a claim for breach of contract or misrepresentation. This is straightforward if the customer has paid for goods or services that have not been provided at all. It is not so straightforward if the claim is that the goods were not of a satisfactory quality, or not as described to the customer”.So can someone please tell what can actually be done about this?

Answer:
I think Consumer Protection is pretty good. They can't legislate against the idiocy of someone who expects a top-notch pair of walkie-talkies for 25 quid. And it's reasonable to assume that by 3+ years any fault in a piece of consumer electronics is not a result of a manufacturing defect.
