Questions & Answers
Question : How can I get my DVD player to work through S-Video?
I decided now would be a good a time as any to try S-Video. I had always run the single yellow wire for video but want to see what the hype is all about. So, I have the S-Video wire connected at both ends, TV's video input is switched to "S-Video", but I have no picture.I have a notice on the screen to connects A/V cords, but the S-Video is plugged in and I have always run the audio through my amp and through my home theatre which has alkways worked.Yes, both devices are plugged in and yes everything is plugged in the right hole and let me reiterate in caps THE INPUT IS ALREADY SWITCHED TO S-VIDEO so please, no one respond with that kind of answer that shows you don't understand the simple question.I am a newbie with S-Video, as I said, but there are no settings to switch to S-Video on eith the DVD player or the TV (other than the input).Thanks.
Answer:
There are two things I can think of:1) Make sure no other cables are connected to your DVD player. Some DVD players will not output through s-video, if your composite is connected.2) Check to see if any of the pins are bent on both ends. There should be four pins. There is not much of a difference between composite and s-video. S-video will look a little brighter and slightly sharper. If you can upgrade to component, you will notice a huge difference.

Question : Is the delay between audio and video I get on my surround sound amp typical?
My amp is also a DVD Player, and when I play a DVD on it the sound and video are in sync, but if I use it to play sound from another source, the sound lags behind a bit. Is this just that I have a cheap system? It isn't the computer running stuff in the background that is doing it. It is when I play the TV Audio through that amp. The Amp delays it
Answer:
Well, at least one or two speakers could have a very short delay )300 ms) like a slap back.Anything more prominet and it could be your system is too slow or bogged down by programs running in the background.Close all programs, such as IMs, etc.

Question : Video an sound Slowed down...help!?
Hey there!I just noticed, that every sound played on my PC is totally slowed down (begins with the boot up sound, ends with mp3 files).I rebooted but it didn't go away. I then reinstalled my audio-drivers, but it didn't go away. I then tried to watch a video and noticed, that not only the sound but also the video is slowed down, no matter if it's a live-stream or a file on my pc. I tried it with every available media-player (used win-amp, WMP, and vlc-player). VLC-Player does have the video at the right speed, but the sound is still too slow.So I figured, that it cant be my hardware...any ideas what the problem could be?I think I need to clarify: video and sound are REALLY slow. Like 50% of the original speed. So it's not because my PC has too many programs running.

Question : video, s-video splitter?
I need to split a video or s-video signal from a (video / dvd player) to 2 lcd monitors and a projector, the audio is going through a seperate amp. Can anyone recomend a unit to do this? The only other problem is the video unit only has video outs not an s-video, i tried to change it for a newer unit but it's a worldwide compatible video player and these cost a lot to replace! Can i convert from video to s-video with an adapter cable? The cable runs between the screens is also quite far 10-15m so signal quality may be an issue.
Answer:
you will need to convert, split and amplify the signal yes?18 m is the max you want to have. Run as long a length as you can to the amp and then make lengths to the LCD projector. Also you don't need the converter if you have a good receiver to rescale the video for you.

Answer:
OMG! OMG! - ......!!!!!! You absolutely have to be out of your mind to put this thing together for him...this is like so over done it is incredible! What is this, an $8,000 computer? I haven't tried to put this together in cost, but just looking at some of the parts this could easily run $8,000 - $10,000 for this computer.First of all, have YOU DONE ANY PRICE COMPARISONS? Have you run the prices on these things against Newegg.Com and TigerDirect.Com? Who is going to put this thing together?Listen, Windows Vista is a HUGE MISTAKE! You don't want to put Vista on this computer...Vista has too many driver problems and restrictions. If you are going to build this MONSTER, you need to have Windows 7 Ultimate Edition as a minimum.I think that 24 Gigabytes of memory is WAY TOO MUCH! No game on Planet Earth is going to require that much memory - and in fact, if you have that much memory on this thing, it may well slow this computer down! I would recommend backing OFF on the memory to 12 Gigs Maximum.I don't know a single game on the planet that needs such an exhorbitant amount of memory - unless he happens to want to play War Games with the Pentagon.Did he put this thing together? It must have one of everything on Planet Earth on here - and the new Intel 6 Core i7 980x cannot really be taken advantage of - there are no games I know of that will access all 6 cores due to a lack of multithreading in the code of the games. It is certainly NOT worth $1000 to buy that CPU! My opinion is that you could well get along with a high end gamer computer for about $1800 maximum...that is where almost every other high end game player is at, unless of course, you just have to throw money away on purpose because you like to burn it up. This computer is not being built for gaming friend, this thing is total bragging rights - he may be the ONLY kid in the United States to own such a rig. But if the whole point is just to have the very VERY best of everything that exists right now at this instant in computing is the point, well, maybe that is the point. The problem is, that in 6 months, this computer will no longer be top of the line. Some other things will come along to take its place. And in 2-1/2 years, this computer will be "OLD" technology. Computers are not an investment, they are a depreciable item and that means, like a car, when you drive it off the lot, it jus dropped by 1/2 the value that you just paid out. There is no point in putting this computer together as far as I am concerned, it is TOTALLY overkill and TOTALLY unnecessary to build this in order to even play Crysis on the very highest settings that exist. He could well get along with a computer less than 1/4 of the cost of these parts and still have bragging rights - this computer is just plain overkill...why do it?My recommendation is to completely back off of this this and to re-evaluate. Do some really hard study on some gamer sites and get recommendations for a realistic rig. Straight "A" or not, this computer is worth more than a car is in terms of parts cost alone.Whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL VISTA! INSTALL WINDOWS 7.

Question : What are the bare minimum cable requirements for 5.1 dolby surround?
I just bought a Dolby 5.1 compatable home theatre surround system. I was wondering if the cables I am using will allow for the surround sound to work properly. It's a pretty cheap system, and it doesn't allow for video to go throught the Amp, and then to the TV. So the audio must come directly from the TV.My setup is this:DVD player to TV with AV cables (Yellow, Red, White)TV Audio to Amplifier with AV cables (Red, White)I'm not sure if AV cables are the proper term, but it's the older style Audio/Video cables with the Yellow for video and the red and white for Audio. Will the surround sound still work when I put a DVD in with 5.1 compatable audio?
Answer:
If you connect the red and white audio from the dvd player to the receiver, it wont decode Dolby Digital 5.1. It will decode Dolby Pro-logic and /or Dolby Pro-logic II. To get DD 5.1, you have to use the digital audio out from the dvd player (coaxial or fiber optic). If your dvd doesn't have these outputs, then just use the red/white for regular Pro-Logic. If you are using a cable box or satellite receiver, then connect the audio out from that to the receiver. User digital audio outs if they have it, otherwise, use the red/white audio outs.If you are not using cable box or satellite, then just connect the audio out from the tv to the receiver. All video from dvd, cable box, or satellite will go directly to tv.

Question : In car audio/video terms, what does sidebreak means?
I can't figure out what sidebreak means.. It is one of the connectors behind my DVD car stereo, together with ant. remote, amp remote, audio in/out. I dont know what you will connect into it. Model is Matrix mobile entertainment system, 2 din dvd player with 6.8 in. LCD. It has a wire behind with a label SIDEBREAK. What is it's purpose? I dont know what to connect in it. I cant get the dvd to work
Answer:
most in-car dvd players require the vehicle to be parked before you can watch a movie. to make sure people don't watch the screen instead of the road, manufacturers put safety features on the dvd player. one of the features requires the parking brake to be on before unit will play. sidebreak can also be parking brake.connect this wire to the parking brake switch connector under the dash above park brake pedal. connect to the wire that shows ground when p/brake is applied. be careful & good luck.

Question : Can you use an older 5.1 receiver to power new audio/video equipment?
or do I need to get a new amp?I just bought a new plasma screen and I want to pick up an upconverting DVD player with HDMI. I plan on buying blu-ray in the future. The receiver I have is an Onkyo TX-DX575 from 2000. it's Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1It has 1 optical and 1 coaxial connections and some component connections but no HDMI of course. Will this receiver do the job or is it outdated?
Answer:
It will work fantastic for the AUDIO duties. The only thing it does not have is hdmi video switching, so you simply run the video straight to the TV and use the TV remote to switch between sources.I strongly suggest you feed that receiver the digital sound from your TV and later from your BluRay player. The sound standard for HDTV is 5.1 which is what that receiver was designed to handle. (Anyone who listens to House, Heroes, Bones, Criminal Minds, etc., with just the TV speakers is missing out on the true HD experience).

Question : I have a sound problem with my amp / media player?
Whenever I play videos off my WD media player that have a DTS audio track, there is a noticeable lag between the sound and video, of about a second(Very noticeable when people speak). I play the audio through a Pioneer amp (Audio/Video multichannel receiver VSX-C502) on 5.1 surround sound speakers. I would like to know if upgrading to an amp with DTS-HD master audio would solve the problem. If not, how could I solve this problem otherwise?
Answer:
DTS-HD Master audio will play only if: 1. The receiver is capable in decoding it. 2. By the use of HDMI cable (optical & coax won't work)If you lack both, then there should be no sound at all. For added info, download MediaInfo software and see the technical info of the video. You can find out if it is a DTS-HD Ma or not. Use the "text" option to read the info (View).Try first to check if there is a new firmware for your WD media player. Go to its website and find out what bugs are fixed, update and download it. Usually it's the media player problem.
