Questions & Answers
Question : Where can you specifically find older barbie dollhouses?
I had one in the early 90's and would like to find one like it any suggestions would be great, and yes i looked on ebay.

Answer:
Hello - After doing some research, it was a pleasant surprise to find that Amazon.com has a nice selection of Barbie items from the 1990s. The source link below is an example of one item found based on your description. (The Barbie Bedroom Playset (1993 Arcotoys, Mattel). Hope this information helps. -- charlino -- www.dollstreetjournal.com

Question : How can I learn to make dollhouses and dollhouse furniture?
And where do they sell miniatures and stuff for this? I know my mother made a dollhouse once and she loved putting it together, but that was quite some time ago. Where could I research how to do this?

Answer:
I have been making dollhouses and miniatures for many years! I have two right now. One is huge and some of the pieces I paid over a hundred dollars. I even worked for a place part time to learn how to make metal pots, pans, silverware, etc. Do a google search for miniatures and dollhouses (be careful with "dollhouse" though as a lot of porn sights use that term). You can also find items in local craft stores like AC Moore, but the quality isn't as good. There are many books out there in hobby shops and libraries. I have made tons of stuff for mine. There used to be a magazine called "Nutshell News" which showed how to make many items. I got a whole collection (about 100) at a garage sale two years ago. You can also look on Craig's list to see if anyone is getting rid of their old collections. Dollhouses were very popular about 6 years ago. As I said I worked for a company, we went to a convention in Chicago which was fantastic. There were hundreds of people there.Good luck and Happy Miniaturing!

Question : Where can I find pictures of the dollhouses from the Museum of Mobile in Alabama?
I'm doing research about them, and both Google and Yahoo! Search aren't helping.I hope that this is in the right category...

Answer:
I've seen the dollhouses you're referring too. I know they were based on local homes around the Mobile area. It's possible that if they were in the permanent collection, they were destroyed during the flooding caused by Katrina. I know the museum was shut down for a time due to that. The museum website doesn't have info about the dollhouses, but the telephone number to the museum is 251-208-7569. I suspect someone at the museum could answer the question.

Question : where can i find free patterns for sewing for dollhouses?
where can i find free sewing patterns for dollhouses...furniture, clothing, accessories, etc...thanks!

It's hard to find many free dollhouse patterns, but I did find a fewHere's a miniature sewing basket:http://www.geocities.com/dollhousedecor/SewingBasket.htmlFree projects, including baby blankets:http://cottonridge.safeshopper.com/50/cat50.htm?657This is a good article on selecting fabrics for miniatrures:http://miniatures.about.com/od/textilesclothing/a/fabricchoices.htmEbay has a few auctions:http://cgi.ebay.com/Dollhouse-Miniature-Craft-Furniture-Sewing-Pattern_W0QQitemZ15011422879 0QQihZ005QQcategoryZ3119QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.com/MINIATURE-HOUSE-FURNITURE-FAMILIES-McCalls -8346_W0QQitemZ110115642101QQihZ001QQcategoryZ3119QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemYou can also purchase patterns here:http://www.minisbycarol.com/patterns.htmThis site lists dozens of links for miniature needlework for dollhouses:http://www.minimindminiatures.com/needlework.htmlThis one also has some good ideas. http://www.silverfoxcreations.com/about.htmlFrom what I understand, you can do your own cross stitches for either wall decorations or rugs, quilts, etc., by doing a smaller pattern on a very high count fabric. (The higher the count, the more squares per inch of fabric, and therefore the finer the design)These sites have printables for dollhouses:http://www.kawarthalakesminis.com/printables1.htmlhttp://www.printmini.com/printables/

Question : Are there any good books about haunted dolls or dollhouses?
I have found a few for kids or young adult, but none for adults. Anyone know of any?

There is a book for kids called the Doll People. It's not really scary but it's actually a good read. Of course, I read it when I was a lot younger.Answer mine?http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqJTEXVUdesQJo0Hdhyw9Gvty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=2010071112 5603AAvF5Ay

Question : How long do little girls play with dollhouses?
My daughter wants one badly but it seems a bit "young" for her (she's 8, almost 9). She wants the "Loving Family Dollhouse" by Fischer Price....I worry that she'll be sick of it in a week and I'll end up hawking it on Ebay...what has your experience been?

Answer:
....and I'm 28 years old now, but I remember pretty clearly my "doll house years".....I played with dolls and dollhouses (including Barbies) until I was 10-11 years old. And the only thing then stopping me was shame, I would've still had fun if it wasn't for other mean bullying girls at school. But all of a sudden I became cognisant of the word "cool", and dolls were a thing of the past. (Well, until my daughter is old enough to start playing - I can't wait to play Barbie again!!!!).But I digress....In your case I looked up the dollhouse in question. Yes, she's slightly passed the "prime" age for the toy. The reviews on Amazon mention it being a great toy for 2-4 year olds and up. But I have to tell you that 8-9 year olds are at a GREAT age still for dollhouse play. They're at that age where their creativity, imagination, is at its peak. The doll playing she'll do is on a level where she'll play games, get inventive, get crafty, and use it as a social interaction tool with friends (maybe).However....she'll probably just get 1-2 years of play out of it at the most. Things are going to change very quickly for your little girl over the next 2 years. She'll discover boys for real (if she hasn't already...), she'll start experimenting with makeup, wearing a bra, wearing deodorant, and trying to mimic adults as much as she can. Expect that many toys are going to be set aside soon. That doesn't mean that she can't enjoy them for now. Let he still enjoy her childhood while it lasts, even if it's only a little longer. Get her the dollhouse. Let her enjoy.....and then look me up in 2 years and sell it to me for my daughter! ;D

Question : What website/sites makes fancy custom Barbie dollhouses?
I'm looking for a website or Etsy store (not an Ebay or Craigslist listing) that makes Barbie-size dollhouse custom designed. NOT a general dollhouse site unless they custom make Barbie size too (which is 1/12 scale). I'm looking for something very big and in my design as close as possible, for display only. Please include a link or at least the name of the Etsy shop/Website, and also how you know about it please. Thanks!

Answer:
Barbie-size is 1/6 scale, not 1/12. It is also known as "playscale," which you should Google. You will get general sites that way, but you should get customizers, too. Many of us will end up modifying deep-set bookshelves, instead. 16" represents a scale 8' ceiling height.
