Questions & Answers
Question : Any good tips on laying cement blocks?
I'm planning on building a raised patio off of the back of my house. It will require a footer, laying cement block, fill dirt and a poured concrete surface. Drawback is that I've been unsuccessful in locating a contractor that is willing to do it. Hence, I'll do it myself. However, since I haven't layed block before, can anyone offer me a few pointers on how to keep the blocks level and straight? Any other pointers would be appreciated too.Yes, elgil, I've tried hiring someone, but after 6 months of rejection, I've decided to do it myself.

Question : How can i get a good start without blocks?
This season of track i ran the 55m dash and my best time was 7.0At practice we use starting blocks and my times are faster. At the meets though we arent allowed blocks, so does anyone have any tips on getting a good start without blocks???
Answer:
Use a three-point position. First, have your hands down behind the line w/ your usual leg in front of the back leg, just as you would with blocks. I'm going to use my set up for the sake of explaining. I have my left leg back, so when the starter calls set, I would get in an up-position, leaving my left hand and both feet on the ground while raise my right hand behind me. Done right, and you should be on 3 of your limbs, hence the three-point position. The raised arm is up and behind you so when the gun goes off, you can drive off that arm and your back leg for a powerful start.

Question : What is the total momentum of the two blocks after the collision?
A 2.0-kg block is moving to the right at 1.0 m/s just before it strikes and stick to a 1.0-kg block initially at rest What is the total momentum of the two blocks after collision?
Answer:
m1 = 2 kgm2 = 1 kgv1 = 1m/sv2 = 0m/s (because it was at rest)formula: m1v1 + m2v2 = (m1 + m2)vv = (m1v1 + m2v2) / (m1 + m2)v = ((2)(1) + (0)) / (2 + 1)v = 2/3 = .67 m/sformula: P=mvP = (m1 + m2)vP = (2 + 1)(.67)P = 2.01 kg x m/sso the momentun is 2.01 kg x m/s

Question : How could somebody remove the blocks on a computer without the administrator?
My brother got a laptop for Christmas and my dad put all these stupid blocks on there. He can't even go to the HP website. So, is there a way without getting the administrator or resetting the hard-drive to remove the blocks? Any passwords or by-passes, something. Please help.
Answer:
As a experienced counter programer (a legal version of hacking) it is possible to remove pass word protected items without the password althought it would depend on your system Any Windows XP is easy stuff but Windows vista is pretty much locked up tight

Question : What do the coloured blocks mean on the bottom of drinks cartons?
On the bottom of cardboard drinks cartons there are blocks of colour and sometimes blocks of black and white. What do these mean?
Answer:
Printers proof codes. They have only to do with the colors the cartons are being printed in. when the sheet of paper doesn't match the color guide any longer they refil the ink in the machines.

Question : What is the static friction of two blocks on top of each other in this problem?
A 4kg block is put on top of a 5kg block. In order to cause the top block to slip on the bottom one, held fixed, a horizontal force of 12N must be applied to the top block. The assembly of blocks is now placed on a horizontal, frictional table. Find the maximum horizontal force which can be applied to the lower block that the blocks will move together and the resulting acceleration of the blocks.
Answer:
You'll have to assume that the blocks are made of the same material and that the coefficient of static friction between the two blocks is the same as it is between the block and the table. If that's the case, then the coefficient of static friction is 12 N / 5*9.81, or 0.245. So to get both of them to move, you would have to apply the maximum static friction force, which is just the coefficient times the total weight. 0.245 x 9 kg x 9.81 = 21.6 Newtons. It's impossible to know the acceleration since this would require knowing the coefficient of kinetic friction. There is not enough information given.

Question : What is the best way to fix sunken landscape stone blocks?
I have landscaping in front of my house outlined by stone blocks (sometimes 2 tiers of blocks, sometimes just one). Over the years they have begun to sink into the ground. What is the best way to make my landscaping look new again with nicely defined borders? I was debating between just buying another layer of blocks to put on top or removing the existing blocks/putting down something/putting the old blocks back. If it were the second method, what would work best to put down - would dirt just sink again? Would something else work better? Also, I don't want to damage my existing plants/shrubs so not sure how I would put down new dirt - my plants would be buried if I filled the new border with dirt but would be hidden by the higher borders if I didn't....Thanks!
Answer:
If you are just talking about a row of bricks or pavers or landscape blocks, all you need to do is pick them up and put a little sand under them to lift and level them. They settle into the ground due to freezing and thawing of the soil.Check out our website for more gardening ideas at-http://www.gardening-at-the-crossroads.com/Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!

Question : What pattern would cover all the blocks?
I need an infinitly repeatable pattern that will cover all the blocks. If you have a grid of white blocks, and you place a black block, it will create 4 green blocks around the black block. What pattern will completely get rid of the white blocks without having 2 black blocks place a green block in the same place? Is that even possible?
