Questions & Answers
Question : Are black helmets that much more hot than other colored helmets?
I have been looking for a full face helmet and really like the look of the black and the flat black helmets. I like silver helmets, but not quite as much is the black. Are the black helmets really that much more hot when in the sun or is it just a slight difference?
Answer:
no, unless you plan to wear it around off the bike.the wind will lower the temperature of the shell to the ambient temperature very quickly.

Question : Is there a difference in bicycle helmets?
I am looking through a bicycling catalog and the prices range from $25 to over $150 for bicycling helmets. I would assume they all have to meet guidelines for protecting your head - surely the more expensive ones will not protect it 5 times better. There seems to be a thing about the number of air vents. I notice the weight between them all is nearly the same. Other than air vents, what advantages would I notice as a user if I went with a mid priced helmet over the cheapest helmet?
Answer:
Weight, venting, and marketing make up the biggest differences in the cost of helmets. Helmets must meet the same standards, so the function of all the helmets is presumably equivalent. However, one way that manufacturers make some models less is expensive is to make less sizes. For example, using 2 molds instead of 3 saves the company development, manufacturing, and distribution costs, but it means less size options for you to get a helmet that fits well. When it comes to comfort and safety, a good fit is the most important factor. More expensive helmets tend to come in a larger variety of sizes with more control over chin strap and back-of-the-head adjustments. I have found helmets with tensioning systems on the back of the helmet to be the most comfortable and to have the most secure fit.Definitely go to a bike shop with lots of models and sizes in stock, and then try on a wide variety of options to see what fits your head and your wallet best.

Question : When choosing materials to make helmets, what physical properties would you look for?
You work for a company that makes helmets: motorcycle helmets, bicycle helmets, baseball and football helmets. When choosing materials to make these helmets, what physical properties would you look for? explain
Answer:
Durability: the material may be impacted by another object with greaterhardness, but sustain little or no permanent damage to its own structure.Hardness: the material needs to have a hardness that is as great aspossible so that it will be protective to the wearer when impacted.Resiliance: the material needs to be able to absorb an impact withsome degree of deformation, but return to its original shape when theimpact force has been removed. This absorbtion of energy is critical, because one does not want the impact force to be transferred to thewearer. The idea is to sacrifice damage to the helmet material, and haveit absorb the energy of impact, rather than have that energy passed on to the wearers head. Light weight: the material should be as light as possible for comfort to the wearer.Easily shaped: the materials need to be easily formed by standard manufacturing methods, so that it may be built efficiently and for thelowest price. Efficient methods include processes like hot-melt molding,blow-forming, and machining. Low cost: the basic materials need to be as low cost as possible to makethe finished product affordable and competitive with similar products onthe market.

Question : Whats the difference between snowboard helmets and skate helmets?
I skate but ive decided to take up snowboarding. What is the difference between the two types of helmets?
Answer:
Primary difference is insulation.Snowboard helmets are designed to keep your head warm. Skate helmets allow greater air circulation for coolingSnowboard helmets have mesh over the vents to keep snow from entering. They have removable ear flaps, some with speakers. There is a padded 'collar' at the base of the back of the helmet to keep snow and wind from getting in the helmet; this also keeps the neck warm and helps deflect snow from entering the jacket.Snowboard helmets have goggle straps to keep your goggles from flying off in a crash. As far as protection, both will work equally as well. I wear my snow helmet if I skate outside at the skatepark.

Sorry, I can't identify the helmet brand or model without a clearer picture. All the scenes with the soldiers dressed in black are dark, smokey, and out of focus. They appear to be glossy, black, full-face motorcycle helmets.

Question : Do you think Bell Motorcycle helmets are good?
I ride a 600cc sport bike. I don't take it to track anymore and I only use it to commute. I've been told Shoei and Arai helmets were the best but I just recently got a Bell helmet and a mechanic told me that Bell is okay. What did he mean by that? Would you consider wearing a Bell helmet? Also, any helmets I should avoid. I hear KBC discontinued because it was horrible.
Answer:
The Bell helmets are very good, the company has been selling them for many many years and still going strong, personally I prefer Nolan probabally the best flip up type you can buy.

Question : Is there a rule against chameleon paint helmets in college football?
I am sure most of you have seen cars painted with paint that changes hue as the optical angle shifts. Could a college team like Oregon use that paint method on their helmets? Imagine updating USC to helmets that shift colors from gold to red as the runner goes by. Screw a blue field, show me a team with helmets and pads that shift in color from blue to purple.
Answer:
IIRC, Oregon did indeed use this sort of paint scheme one time on their helmets - to simulate the effect that a mallard duck's head feathers give when the sun shines on it. I don't see why there would be a rule against such helmets, short of them installing LED's or that flashed or something as a distraction. Army recently used digi-camo on their helmets for a game or two, instead of their traditional gold helmets. As a USC fan, I personally would be aghast if USC started adopting Oregon's ways. Oregon sometimes wears uniforms that have ZERO representation of their school colors of green and gold. The once wore an ensemble that was silver, black and white. That's fine for a program like Oregon which has yet to win a national championship or produce a Heisman Trophy winner, but for a storied program like USC, I'm all for the traditional. Pretty sure fans of Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, and other traditional powers probably feel similar. What if the Michigan Wolverines came out wearing some uniform that was light blue with silver trim and a picture of a wolverine on the side of their helmets? The fans in the Big House would probably faint! But I digress...

Question : What's one of the best helmets to get.?
I recently had a bad fall(I have no memory of it) and ended up with a bad concussion. My helmet got destroyed(it was just one of those schooling helmets with a dial). I want to know what helmets/helmet brands are the best and most protective. Thank you!
Answer:
Bike helmets really! I have been thrown so many times I cant keep count anymore. And the times I have been thrown I have used my bike helmet and its never broken or even cracked its got a good couple of dings and scratches to it. But I have had my bike helmet for 3 years and I still use the same one!! Get a bike helmet it truly works!

Question : What did the uniforms and helmets look like for the NFL Philadelphia Eagles from 1933 (their start) to 1959?
I am trying to find out the color and any symbols used (e.g. if an eagle or eagle wing, what exactly did it look like and how was it arranged, located on the helmet or uniform/helmet), etc. on the early Philadelphia Eagles football team from their founding years in the 1930s to the years following their late 1940s championships, i.e. through the 1950s. I have been able to find color videos taken of their 1960 championship and verified that they had the current green and silver colors with the silver or white eagle wing on the helmet, but I am having much trouble finding their exact colors, uniform design, and so on in the years prior to that. Most specifically, I am trying to find when they may have changed from some other color scheme (red and black I have seen as a possibility from one source) to the green and silver or white. Since there were only leather helmets with no facemasks through the 1940s at least, I am more concerned with the uniform color scheme and design of the era.

maybe this link can help ya.
