Questions & Answers
Question : Is a butter stamp/press functional or merely decorative?
I saw a cute design butter press ( the stamp part only, not a tub or container ) Does this serve a purpose when making butter other than to make a pretty design on top? Is it necessary to 'press' the butter? Thanks
Answer:
It's simply a nice touch for for finishing your butter...but if the butter has been well patted with butter pats there shouldn't be any water left in it

Question : Is there an inexpensive place to buy stamped metal ceiling panels?
I am remodelling the kithen and love the idea of replacing the sheetrock ceiling with stamped tin decorative ceiling tiles. I checked it out on line and I found a place that sells them for around $20 per panel. I think that is expensive. Is there a cheap alternative. The house is 60 years old. I want the kitchen to have character. I love the way the stamped tin tiles look on the ceiling. If there is a cheaper molded plastic version, I can accept that as well. I just want to add texture to the ceiling with some intricate detail. I want it to be affordable also. The kitchen is about 12ft x 12ft. I will be starting with exposed joists.
Answer:
Check at your local mobile home supply, There is a skirt for the bottom of trailers that look like ceiling panels that will work. Another idea used in restaurants and stores is corrugated steel panels, looks right for the period.

Question : Link to wide selection of decorative paper punches?
Do you use a lot of paper punches for scrapbooking or card making. Please, give me links to your sources! I've decided to eliminate my stamping because I find that I use punches more often and need to supplement what I already have. My local scrapbooking haunts have a limited collection. Thanks!
Answer:
Wow! Such a great hobby scrapbooking! There are several places to try finding what you like. http://www.quillingsuperstore.com/http://www.orientaltrading.com/http://joann.com/http://www.k8memor ies.com/are some of the more reliable on-line stores I use.

Question : What is the tool that punches decorative shapes in silver, metal or copper for jewelry making and crafts?
I have seen it in the shapes of hearts, flowers, etc. on earrings and necklaces. Not stamped but a hole all the way through.
Answer:
There are countless dies available, sometimes even available as sets. They are generally on small handles or have an interchangeable handle and are used with a block and mallet to force the die through the metal. The piece with which you're working is placed on the block, I prefer rubber blocks, then the die is placed and the mallet used to apply the force needed to cut the piece. Most any jewelry supply will have them, online or brick and mortar! I believe Michael's even carries a small selection.

Question : What type (subject) of rubber stamps do you wish you could buy?
I'm thinking of making some rubber stamps and selling them on ebay but I need to know what is popular, what people are looking for and what types them would buy? Examples: animals, religious, decorative corners/borders, cute sayings or whatever. Your answer would be most appreciated.
Answer:
If i was to buy one, i would like stamps that say funny stuff like "dance", "rejected", "drunk", "broke", "love", "i like..." or nice grafics like a funky heart shape, a cool tribal design or an eye with a tear falling.... you know, something out of the box.stuff that people can use it for recreation, collages, bloging or even funny pranks but that's just the first thing that came to my mind and i'm only 1 opinion. Hope it helps and Good luck with it!

Question : I was planning on having my basement finished. Could I wait to have the stamped decorative concrete floor done?
until after the walls are framed out and sheetrocked and painted and the drop ceiling installed? It would make it a lot easier as far as painting and dealing with any mess. Does this work to do the stamped concrete after everything else?In general, does the type of flooring you are choosing affect the order in which you would proceed in finishing a basement?
Answer:
It's wise of you to make this a concern. So many people put the cart before the horse. When doing a project the general rule is inside out top down. Floors are always the last on the list. I would however have the floor floated prior to framing if it's uneven. If you do have the floor re floated consider installing radiant floor heating.

Question : I want to put in a stamped decorative concrete patio. Any tips?
Any suggestions on what to look for in how its done. How should the color be added to the concrete?
Answer:
I've seen it done two ways. One company stained over the top of the concrete and one mixed the color into the wet concrete. Of the two methods, I prefer the latter to the former. Watching both over time the color infusion method simply wore better, had less problems with flaking and wearing. I've also seen where they put a skim coat and stamp the patten in that over existing concrete. It was done on a driveway with car traffic and now has some chunks missing. When it is laid in forms, color infused and stamped, the overall performance is well worth the price. PS I'm in SoCal and cannot speak for applications where there is freeze and thaw conditions. Sorry.

Question : Is there a way to cover decorative border tiles instead of replacing?
The tiles are a flat design that look like they were stamped and then fired.
Answer:
you can get paint for tiles, other than that you could tile over them

Question : decorative stamped concrete?
I am considering stamped concrete for my walk ways and a patio. Can anyone tell me what the cost is to something like this and how long does the stamping last, does it have to be resurfaced each year?
Answer:
Stamped concrete is quite durable, after all, it's concrete. It should last for many years. Cleaning and sealing stamped and colored concrete should be done on a regular basis just like any other home maintenance. The frequency will depend on how high a traffic area to cars, foot traffic, water, and any chemicals the concrete is exposed to, although resealing every 2 or 3 years is generally recommended. If you wait longer, you may notice the color fade slightly. But just like waxing a car, reseal your stamped concrete and the color will be as vibrant as the day it was installed.
