Questions & Answers
Question : how long are you supposed to leave a flower in the press?
I have a simple little flower press (2 plastic pieces with nuts and bolts) and I put a daffodil inHow long are you supposed to leave it closed so that the flower dries completely?

Answer:
I pressed my flowers in a thick book and I left it in for about a week

Question : Flower pressing sunflowers?
Has anyone tried to press a sunflower? Any tricks? They are fairly small for sunflowers...

Answer:
I think they are too beefy to press. You can press the petals, but I don't think it's possible to press the whole flower. I could be wrong though.

Question : Pressing a flower that has been dried for about 5 days?
At my grandma's funeral they gave all the grandchildren flowers to press.. but I left mine at home by accident while i returned to school. I am home now and want to press it for an art project, but the flower is dry. it has been since monday, it's saturday now. Can i still press it or is there something i should do first?

Answer:
only press them

Question : What is flower pressing and how do you do it?
What is flower pressing and how do you do it?

Answer:
This works best with single petal flowers like pansies as opposed to roses - The easiest and most inexpensive way is to pick the flower - put between two sheets of waxed paper and then insert into a very big book. Add weights to the book if you feel you need to - wait a couple of weeks - propably not even that long - and remove the flower. It should be dry and pressed and still colorful.

Question : Flower Pressing, please help!!?
I really want to press a flower and put it in a round pendant, but i dont know where to get a plain transparent round pendant. Can someone please tell me where either online or in glasgow where i can find one?

Answer:
You can buy various shapes of glass (or clear plastic) to put the dried flower under. Various shapes and types may be available at craft stores**, but there are lots more online.**Perhaps in the floral dept as glass pebbles, or as (flat-backed) glass "marbles," or various other places in the store dealing mostly with jewelry supplies. Many people put (thoroughly) dried flowers/etc under or inside clear resins too (or even under a very shallow pour of clear gloss polyurethane, from the hardware store).***Here are some places to get more info, and also to check out for making similar items too:http://glassattic.com/polymer/MISC.htm (...click on the sub-categories under *Marbles, Etc.*)"marble magnets": http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=imghp&biw=1425&bih=885&q="marble+magnets"drying flowers quicky, by microwave:http://glassattic.com/polymer/mixing_media.htm (click on *Dried Nature* then scroll down to "Quick Drying" methods)***resins (and putting "embedments" inside it or underneath):http://glassattic.com/polymer/other_materials.htm (click on *In Permanent Cells* under the Epoxy Resin category, but also perhaps on *Casting* under both the Epoxy Resin and the Polyester Resin categories)HTH,Diane B.

Question : How to press a flower?
I have a homemade flower press, but I have never used it. What is the place position to place the flower? Should I open it or press it on the side. If it helps, it is a stargazer lilly. Also, should I place parchment or wax paper down? Thank you

Answer:
After picking your favorite flowers, put them in the refrigerator to keep them from wilting...place the flowers on the inside fold of the sheet of newspaper, make sure there is no overlapping of leaves, petals, or stems, (doesn't matter what position they are in) fold the top half of the newspaper sheet down over the flowers, place in flower press...the drying process takes about 3 days, once the flowers are pressed and dry you can use them in arrangements, art work, as gifts, etc.

Question : When pressing a flower, do I need to remove the stigma?
I'm trying to press a Lily, and was wondering if I should remove it? I'm quite sure I mean the stigma...year 5 science was so long ago, parts of the plant has slipped my mind. I mean the long bit sticking out of the middle of the flower...God I do sound like an idiot describing it like that don't I? Anyway, I'd appreciate any help, thank you ^_^

Answer:
I know what you mean - the word is stamen. Lilies usually have a very orange stamen which can stain, so it would probably pay to remove it prior to pressing.

Question : Will plastic wrap work for pressing flowers?
I pressed a flower once, and it didn't work well, so I wanted to ask this time how to do it properly. I hear that wax paper works well, but since I have none, will plastic wrap work? What other good substitutes are there, about how much weight does a single rose need, and how long should I press it for? Thanks!

Answer:
yes it will. but you will still need to put it in between some heavy books.Step1FLOWER PREP.- For best results make sure you pick your flowers at their freshest and press when there is no moisture on them. The colors are better when you take this extra step. When preparing the flower for pressing give it some thought as to how it will look when flattened. Avoid allowing parts to overlap. Step2 PRESSING YOUR FLOWERS- There are a couple of different ways to press flowers, that I know of. Pressing Flowers in Books - Place flower between 2 sheets of paper (coffee filters work well also) to protect the pages of the book. Best to place flower in the center of a thick book. Weigh the book down and wait a couple of weeks.Flower Presses - You can buy a flower press or make your own out of a couple of wooden squares. To make a simple wooden press: Cut 2 wooden boards, about 1' width and 1' length. (You can also get these pre cut at a lumber store.) Hold them together with a long bolt and wing nut in each corner. Cut pieces of cardboard to fit between the boards, glue them to the inside of the block pieces. Allow this to dry thoroughly before putting in a flower. Place the flower in the center of the two blocks and tighten the wing nuts. Again, this will take a couple of weeks. Step3 After a couple of weeks has gone by. Open your book or flower press and carefully peel out the flower. You can now frame your flower or whatever you have in mind. Be creative.

Question : Pressing flower petals... please help!!!?
Okay, my grandma bought flowers from my sister's school fundraiser. When we brought them to her house and took the plastic wrapping off, natrually, some flowers petals fell off. I looked at them, and they were in the shape of hearts! I think they'd be perfect for a Mother's Day card, but I need to know how to press them, and I DON'T have a flower press. Thanks!

Answer:
Depending on how much time you are allowed to prepare the flowers, is the method one must use. If time is rushed.. One can press the flowers with sheets of wax paper and an iron. Turning the iron on low and iron the flowers between two sheets of the wax paper. Do not over heat the wax paper and make sure you have the paper facing the correct direction as not to get any wax on your iron.. Typically this would be the shiny side facing each other. If one had a bit longer to wait, you need some very large books and place the flowers between the pages.. and set other books on top to act as a "press".Shops like Fed-Ex/Kinko's offer a laminate servers with you can do yourself.. they that for the fastest way to press small flowers.

Question : Flower pressing?
Can anyone tell me the right was to press flowers (step by step guide please). Got lovely red roses from 'someone special' and would like to press and keep one! Thanks!!

Answer:
Put them in plastic and get a thick book and put he flowers at the bottom of the inside of the book . The weight of the book will slowly start to press the flowers down and then when they are not pressing any more you can put something on the book until the flowers are flat. When this is done you can put them in a frame or make a frame for yourself. If you want to make a frame for a very reasonable price e-mail me and I will tell you how to do it.
