Questions & Answers
Question : Where is a good place to take cartooning classes?
I like to draw cartoon characters (sort of disney style stuff) but my work could certainly use some polishing. I'm 14 and i was thinking about looking into some cartooning classes or workshops this summer. What would be some good places to look? Do art school ever hold classes for stuff like that and if yes how much would they cost? If you don't think art schools hold classes like that, what do you suggest?

Answer:
Yes, there are an increasing number of workshops and classes, you really need to research what's available in your area. The website in the link below seems to bring together all the resources for cartooning in the UK.It seems an increasing number of cartoonists who can't live just by selling their own work are looking for opportunities to run workshops and classes, they do them in schools and libraries and various community and arts centres that run holiday workshops or classes for young people, so one way to find out what is going on is to look at the websites of the people who are advertising as teaching cartooning and they will have news about if they are doing anything in your area.At art colleges cartooning generally comes under illustration, again do some research, but have a look at the website anyway because there's masses of interesting stuff on it.

Question : How to take Cartooning as a profession through Internet?
I want to switch from my software engineer career to full-time cartooning. I draw good cartoons (in science, politics, computer, environment)and got some of them published also. Please suggest me how to sell my cartoons worldwide as I reside in India(scopes are limited here). Will I earn decently so that i can give up my current job? Cartooning is my childhood hobby. Please help me with your valuable suggestions.

Answer:
If you want to publish and sell books of your cartoons online you can use CafePress.comJust set up a free account in less than 5 minutes. Then upload your art as PDF'sDetermine the price of your product and you have an online store open for business and selling your books. YES, you can publish and sell online - for free! It's amazing. I swear I don't work for them. There are syndication companies that will syndicate your comics in a variety of publications for sale and publication around the world for maximum earning potential. King Features is the most well known, I will provide a links about them and other syndication companies below.Whenever you get a new comic published you can send out press releases using PRWeb.com. Your own website with regular updates and emailed newsletters can do this for you too. If you know how to animate you could eventually make your own cartoons come to life and offer them online as programming or viral elements like e-cards as another poster suggested. If any of your cartooning ideas would make good longer form animated art it might be useful to tap into your local film community and offer your illustration services to a post production company in exchage for film animation training. Also it would be good for artists in other high profile media to become aware of your work so creative business relationships and opportunities can grow. Use the internet to reach out to organizations that would find your cartoons favorable to their cause. Let them know about your work whenever you publish new cartoons related to their effort. They have a tremendous potential to really get your work out there to passionate people who will pass it around again.Have fun pursuing this new path in your life. Cartooning was my childhood hobby too and technology was key in helping me find ways to make it profitable. Best of luck to you!

Question : What are good exercises to do daily to improve cartooning and drawing ?
I love to draw Disney characters and also have a go at normal sketching. I want to try and do some bits each day. Are there any good exercises to do to improve.

Answer:
You are on the right track when you said that you draw daily.First and foremost watch a lot of cartoons,ie. movies, more than once, think up any of the characters you've seen and draw them off your head then compare with the movie again. You can copy pictures and tracing helps a lot.DVD's are normally accompanied by either a special features in the main dvd or an extra disc that has the special features and the work that went behind a production of the movie. Worthwhile to watch.

I'd love to start a webcomic but there's a few things I can't get started on - how do you colourise a hand-drawn strip that's been scanned in? How would I go about hosting it? Anyone been here before who's faced other problems? Any advice appreciated, ta!

Answer:
I dont know the technical stuff (I'd assume just scan it and use the built in colourising tools on photoshop or gimp) but http://www.keenspot.com/ are great webcomic hosts. I've discovered loads of great little comics there, including Sinfest who started there and are now being published by black horse comics.

Question : why is cartooning not taught in public schools?
i was wondering why cartooning not taught in public schools. does it go against the curriculum?im pretty good at cartooning myself, so id like to know. also, its for a school project.if so, please explain.

Answer:
at my school we have 3 classes for cartooning.two levels and an AP.i have a friend excelling in cartooningi guess if the schools can find/afford/have room for cartooning and there are a reasonable amount of people wanting to join up than you should talk to the school staff about it.have a survey on weather people would join and show it too them.

Question : A good art school for cartooning or drawing?
I like to draw and doddle like cartoons and such but I also like to paint and color.I need a few good schools so I can work on getting scolarships and money of course.

Answer:
http://collegeboard.comyou can put in all of your preferences, like specific states, urban or rural environment, and majors. art schools are usually medium/small schools so make sure to check that off unless you want a school that doesn't specialize in art.parsons and risd are great schools but very competitive. i really don't recommend art institutes. the staff is nice and they're easy to get into, but they suck.
