Question : if i took some chalkboards from the side of the dumpster at a mall?
And nothing happened what are the chances of the company pursuing me? They did have cameras and the gate where the dumpster was wasn't locked or anything.
Answer:
Chances are that they don't care. Mall tenants throw away lots of things, most of it junk, but you may find useful things from time to time. Just bear in mind that malls are private property and you should be careful about what you decide to take home.

Question : What issues would I have advertising on chalkboards on a college campus?
I'm interested in starting a tablet company, and I need to hire developers. I'm considering writing the URL of our advertisement on various chalkboards around campus; would I run into legal trouble doing that?
Answer:
Yes, you probably would if you started doing that.Campuses have boards in various PUBLIC places where you can post ads. By somehow getting into actual classrooms and posting ads THERE on chalkboards, etc. is not allowed. If you do it enough, someone in the college administration is going to learn of it - and you will have given them some good info as to how to 'track you down'. Just use the public boards near the departments which you are trying to recruit from. Don't 'invade' the non-public areas like classrooms with your ads.As to the extent of the 'legal troubles', probably not much. If caught once or twice, likely banned from the campus. More than that, civil misdemeanor charges with perhaps financial penalties. Keep doing it long enough and you might start facing jail time.Colleges are NOT public property. You can only post things on designated 'public' boards, NOT in 'private' classrooms.

Question : What is the material old-fashioned school chalkboards are made from?
What is the green or black material called which make up older chalkboards in school? I assume it's some kind of synthetic material.
Answer:
Porcelain-enamelled steel. In other words, they are a combination of ceramics and metal. At first, I was going to say slate, as this was the original natural stone material that early chalkboards were made of, but then realized that "old fashioned" didn't mean THAT old-fashioned.

Question : do chalkboards change color in a fire?
Would a chalkboard change color in a fire, to maybe something like red?and what about if they were just exposed to extreme heat? Like, if it were near a fire, but wasn't actually burnt? any affect on that?
Answer:
The backing for the slate (on older boards) is usually made up of wood, which will burn very quickly. The slate is too thin to be able to bond properly and will probably shatter very quickly, leaving a fine dust or small fragments.Newer chalkboards are simply painted surfaces, so they will burn up to nothing. The answer to the question is: grey and white ash.

Question : Why do Japanese schools still use chalkboards when dry-erase boards are better?
it's not that expensive either.. japan is a pretty rich country, so i don't get why they wouldn't use dry-erase boards instead of cheap chalkboard..
Answer:
Dryboards are not always better.Chalk boards are more eco-friendly.Chalk boards are friendly to eyes even you keep on watching for several hours. Lines on tender green back ground..Dry-erase boards are shiny and it reflects lights and sunshine.Japanese writing is very delicate.. With chalkboards, you can express lines more delicately, strength, weakness, wide and bold, narrow and soft., pressure of the stroke.... etc. I bet pupil would forget to cap these pens and pens would soon dry. However, some schools are introducing dry-boards recently, because they are introducing PCs to their class and dust of chalkboard could give damage to these PCs and high-tech stuff.

Question : Chalkboards or whiteboards and tell me why?
Chalkboards for me, whiteboards are horrible. I hate trying to write with those markers only to realize the ink has dried and moving on to the next marker and finding out the same thing. Also, hate getting marker stains on my clothes.
Answer:
I've used both and by far I prefer the whiteboards. Like you pointed out they have their draw backs too but so much less messier. The occasional stain on clothing washes right out. I was a Girl Scout and the motto is, "Be Prepared!" Keep extra markers at all times you so don't run out. Make sure the caps are on them before putting them back in the tray to prevent them from drying out. It just takes a little self-discipline.If you have allergies like I do, the whiteboards are much better, you're not breathing in that chalk dust especially when beating the erasers. The only way you can get a clean blackboard is to wash it but you still have all that chalk dust in the trays to content with too.

Question : Is It True That More Classrooms are Doing Away With Chalkboards and Erasers for Digital Screens?
I get mail from my old high school and college and they have been saying that more of their classrooms had their blackboards dismantled to make room for a big computer screen. Is this going on in a lot of schools?
Answer:
The high school I teach in has an interactive whiteboard - called a SmartBoard - in every single classroom. For a high school with over 2200 students, that's a lot of SmartBoards! The chalkboards, erasers, and chalk are still there, but the Smartboard covers up about a third of the board in the center of each classroom. They are really useful and impressive tools. I have found them let me spend more time teaching the students instead of writing notes on the board, and they allow me to present a variety of multimedia material. They plug right into the teacher's computer in every classroom, so the internet is also accessible in addition to all of the other things that can be done. In my district, all five of the elementary schools have them in every classroom, and almost all of the classrooms in the middle school now have them as well. Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago. I was visiting a private Catholic high school down near NYC (I'm in upstate NY), and I didn't see computers in any of the classrooms - only in the computer labs. There were no Smartboards to be found either. Sure, this school has a new $30+ million dollar sports complex, but no computers in the classroom (that I could see). I think their priorities are mixed up.

Question : where can i get the cheapest price for frameless chalkboards?
Just looking for the chalkboard panel.
Answer:
As an option for best price, with just a little labor:Home Depot and Lowe's sell chalk board paint (online, spray cans sell for about $4 each purchased in lots of 6; each covers up to 12 square feet). Applied to masonite panels, which you can probably get them to cut for you, may be a cost effective route to go.Fore pre-cut panels, Dick Blick online has 18" x 24" hard board panels for $2.24. Other sizes are available.
