Easy Peasy Yo-Yoing

My little sister can't stop messing with this! She loves it! It's way easier than my Butterfly yoyo, so its perfect for beginners. It is a really pretty violet purple color and the string is a little long, so she can fit it to her size.

Decent yo-yo, you get what you pay for.

This yo-yo was what I expected for $5. I wasn't looking for a high quality toy for this price. The only gripe I had with this is it's sleep time. Some reviews were claiming it can sleep for 15-20 seconds, but with mine, I could barely get 3-4 seconds before it would stop spinning. Not sure if mine was defective or something, but that's how it was. I wasn't too surprised though, seeing as this yo-yo has no bearing. It's still a great cheap yo-yo, but don't expect too much for $5.

Starts off Great...but then....

I bought 4 of these...first 2 units for 2 of my 3 kids (what was I thinking for leaving one out??), then 2 more for me and my other child. I bought 3 of the imperials, and 1 Duncan butterfly.

Each one of them started out GREAT! We were all happy, and I was showing off my "round the world" "rocking the cradle" and "Walking the dog" tricks. I looked like a hero to my kids.

But each one of them stopped 'sleeping' after 2 days. I adjusted the string (unwinding it so it's not so tight...a common 'sleep' fix) but to no avail. Now these yo-yo's just go up and down...no sleeping at all.

After some research, it appears as if I need to step up to a different, more updated version of the yo-yo with a different axle, etc.

So...I'm disappointed in these Duncan Imperials. They're what I had as a kid, and thought they would be great. I just can't understand why they all stopped sleeping...we're it not for that issue (and it's a HUGE issue), I would be giving 5 stars.

This yoyo slips too much on its metal pin. It is very hard to get it to return, especially when it is new. Using it improves performance but it is not perfect.

my friend has this yo yo and i cant put it down! he got it at toys r us for fifteen dollars and i saw here that this is the best price. my friend got a rip off. but this is the best yo yo i have ever delt with and i think it would be a good thing to buy. at school yo yo is the new rage and this one is the best one that anyone has. Going up the Yo Yo ladder......

I bought the Speed Beetle since it was a step up from the toy yo yos that we all had as kids. However, I would go directly to the top of the yo yo ladder, if you think you are going to get serious about becoming a yo yo master. This is a good durable yo yo for beginners.....and worth the price.

Decent yo-yo for learning loop tricks

Just to state this, this yoyo is designed for looping (repeated throwing very quickly) rather than sleeping (where the yoyo just spins at the end of the string). Its a semi-decent sleeper, if you're going to try some simple sleep tricks like rock the baby, but anything else and you'll quickly be frustrated. However, this sucker is made for looping. It's very responsive on the string. The friction sticker system really does work well, plus they include thinner shims so you can really go nuts looping (switching the shims basically eliminates the ability for the Speed Beetle to sleep).
At the price, get two and practice your two-handed looping.

Excellent Looper

Yo-yos have been a hobby of mine since the late 1950's and I have 48 of them. The Duncan Speed Beetle is the best looper I've ever had, and I have several yo-yos that cost substantially more. I was able to do 170 outside loops with this yo-yo, and could have done more but the string came loose from my finger. It has a very fast response due to the friction stickers and is easy to control. I recommend using the narrow spacers provided for best looping. Lube it with vaseline, replace the stickers when worn and replace the string regularly for best performance. This yo-yo is not designed for spinning or string tricks, use a Sunset Trajectory and ShinWoo Phantom for those and you'll be all set. Unbelievable performance for the price!
