Questions & Answers
Question : How often do you buy your child or children toys?
I buy my 1 1/2 year old a few toys every month. They are piling up and I wonder if that's too many. She is an only child and I just want to make sure she is not bored. Of course, I read, dance, sing, with her too but sometimes it's nice when she entertains herself and toys are great for that. How often do you buy your kids toys?

Answer:
about 1x a month also :)

Question : What kinds of toys do children in Afghanistan play with?
Please list, if you can, the Types and Names of toys that children in Afghanistan play with. I need to know some toys that are the same as other children in the rest of the world and some toys that are specific to the country and culture (if any).I need as many as you can think of.

Answer:
I don't know. What I do know is that it is a poor country so probably very little.

Question : Some who builds children toys is called a what?
I suddenly can't remember. A mechanic fixes, an engineer solves practical problems (not problems like "What is beauty?") so someone who builds mechanical things (toys to be specific) is a what?EDIT: Oh sorry, mechanic children toys, like wind-up.

Answer:
Toymaker?

Question : children TOYS!!!!?
What do kids like to play with, categorize these in age groups like:3-4 years old- Teddy bears

Answer:
It's hard to generalize like that because all kids are different and the toy market is constantly changing, I think a better question would be what are kids playing with NOW and categorize into ages groups like...

Question : Can you use a little bleach to clean plastic children toys?
Hi.I've been given this beautiful plastic toy farm and I want to thoroughly clean it before giving it to my son. Can I use a little bleach? Thanks

Answer:
Dont worry, bleach kinda freaks me out also! :) But yes, you can use bleach. Just make sure you read the instructions about how much to use with how many gallons of water.. Its suppose to be super diluted.. Like, one cap full for every gallon or something like that. And regardless, rinse off the toys several times before giving to your son. Make sure there is no trace of bleach smell at all!

Question : What are the best learning toys for children?
I have a 9 mo old daughter and a 2 year old son who isn't speaking yet. He has poor cognitive skills due to having crossed eyes since birth and has had surgeries to correct them and still more to come. He will be seeing a speech and child development therapist next month. Each having different abilities, my daughter is showing signs of catching on earlier than my son did, yet that may be cause her eyes are not crossed. I was just wondering, what are the best learning toys out there that are the appropriate age for my two children?I didn't say his speaking has anything to do with his eyes, yet his dr said it might, seeing how he couldn't even see our face to watch us say the words we've been trying to teach him. Got him evaluated by SoonerStart and he is at the learning level of an 11 mo old so anything we do or try could help. He does have the house one of you mentioned. He has tons of toys, just doesn't seem interested in most. Dr said he just may not see them that well. Is more interested in trucks and things with wheels. Won't let me read to him because he can't see the pictures, or at least shows no interest in them. Thanks though for all your answers.

Answer:
Visual impairments may contribute to speech delays, but usually they are severe impairments. The doctors would know best on that one. As one person wrote, the old fashioned toys are best. Blocks are open ended and inspire a child's imagination. My son, who also has a speech delay and one eye that wonders in (and will need surgery), his wooden train set is his favorite. I have a blog reviewing natural, developmentally appropriate toys:http://www.ecochildsplay.comReading to your child is the most important thing you can do. Keep reading, even if he doesn't show interest. You can read to him while he plays. Telling him stories is a great activity too, that may lead to books. Also, talk to him all the time! Speak constantly about what you are doing so that he hears language and can build his receptive vocabulary. How is his hearing? Good luck with your little ones!

Question : In today's time, do people still give their children toys due to the competitive video game industry?
Are children of a certain age group more satisfied with getting a video game console and a few games instead of piles of toys? I'm sure kids still want toys but would they still be happy if they got their ps3, 360, or wii if you just left out all the toys?

Answer:
I'm going to own gaming consoles because I play games, anyway, but my children are going to get toys, too. I'm also going to take them to the park. They need to learn how to have fun without being in front of the TV.

Question : How can I donate toys and picture books to children in Africa?
This question has been asked here before with people suggesting looking into UNICEF, dba.darien.org, and the Peace Corps. None of these seem set up to simply receive and thoughtfully direct donations of boxes of simple toys and children's books -- things that are not as essential as food and medicine, but are at least things I have and many fewer kids in America lack access to. I am willing to pay for shipping and to pack and label boxes, etc.. I just need help finding people to direct the mailings to.

Answer:
i would suggest shipping them over to Huruko children center in Kibera slums of Kenya. it focuses on eradication of poverty through educating the young ones. am sure they need the books-look up their profile on www.wecaretoo.com. it will get to them personally. the director can be reached on essymboina@yahoo.com,or call her on +254727417495

Question : Is it hard to knit stuffed animals and children toys?
I'm looking for a new hobby, and I really like the knitted stuffed animals and toys..but there so expensive. I've never knitted before.

Answer:
Nothing is hard to do --- when you know how. But since you have never knitted, this is going to be impossible! The first thing is to learn to knit quite well, and to learn all the different stitches you will have to use. Then it's easy. Sometimes it's just easier to go and buy it. Knitting is not for everyone.
